Mango Foundation excited to partner with Mega Foundations for our first project of 2024, which is to help Restore the Shankaran Devan Canal in Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu, India. Ramanathapuram is located in the far south of Tamilnadu, The region was once known for a large number of waterbodies but now it is known for its scarcity and saltwater intrusion. Ramanathapuram is one of the DRIEST places in India due to the lack of river water irrigation, poor maintenance of water channels and the mass colonisation of Prosopis Juliflora. The water bodies in the region LOST their capacity to store water due to a lack of maintenance for a long time. Restoring this Canal will benefit 5 LAKH people from 455 villages. Farmers and fishermen will LARGELY benefit from this initiative. Once this water canal is restored it can feed 1000+ lakes and 2500+ small ponds thus ensuring water access to a large number of people. Removing Prosopis juliflora will have a DIRECT POSITIVE impact on the groundwater level, vegetation and the health of the people.
With YOUR help, we can help restore this water body and help provide clean water to hundreds of thousands of people. Donating TODAY will help cover the labor and documentation needed to help restore this canal! Every donation will be greatly appreciated!
